Introducing: Two Orange Flamingos Walk Into A Bar

When I first spotted the Two Orange Flamingos Walking into a Bar, my dear friend Steve Savage questioned their authenticity: “Orange you going to explain why these are not pink?” he wrote on Facebook.

The truth about flamingos

The truth about flamingos is this: young flamingos are naturally gray, and adult flamingos’ colors are dictated by what they eat. Captive flamingos eat commercial flamingo pellets which have both nutrients and pigments. In the wild, flamingos will eat brine shrimp and other crustaceans.

The Orange Flamingo Families

The Small Friends Research Institute has taken note of Orange Flamingos and their Families. They are special, and, of course, and they supplement pellets and shrimp with either of these excellent cocktails: the non-alcoholic Orange Flamingo or the very alcoholic Orange Scorpion.

Orange Flamingo: In a chilled highball glass, mix 4/5 chilled orange soda, a dash of Grenadine and 2T whipping cream.

Orange Scorpion:  In a Collins glass filled with ice, mix:

                ½ oz Triple Sec

                1 oz Grand Marnier

                1 oz Light Rum

                6 oz orange juice

                ½ oz Crème de Almond

The Small Friends Research Institute staff will continue to work with this compelling new species.
